Laundry soap ~ Homeade

After the great success I have had with making my own dishwasher soap, I tried my hand at making my laundry soap.

I looked up all kinds of recipes all over the internet.  There are many out there but they are all pretty much the same.  The only difference is if you want to make a powder or a gel soap.  I wanted a gel.  I started saving up my Woolite bottles so I can put my soap into.  So I am also recycling 😮

Here are the supplies,

(I found every one in the laundry aisle at Wal-mart)

~1 cup finely shredded Fals-Naptha (you can also use zote, or ivory)

~1 cup Washing Soda

~1 cup 20 mule team Borax

~2 cups boiling water

~3 gallon bucket

~old laundry soap bottles, milk jugs, etc to use for smaller containers

~gallon water

~ shred the soap on a cheese grater or finely chop with a knife

~boil 2 cups water and then add 1 cup of soap, stir until dissolved

~ in bucket place 1 cup borax and 1 cup washing soda

~pour soapy water into bucket with borax and washing soda.  stir until dissolved.

~add 1 gallon water (16 cups water) stir until well mixed.

~use funnel to put the soap into the container of your choice

~once cooled mixture will look like a goopy mess, just give container a good shake

~it will look something like this:

This recipe fill 3 Woolite bottles and a little bit left over I just put into a small Tupper ware tub.

For each load use 1/4 cup.

You can also add a 1/2cup of oxi-clean.  Some people add, I chose not too.

another option is to add an esstinal oil a 1/2 teaspoon for a scent if you choose.

I have done a few loads so far and I really like how my towels just smell clean.  I will let you know how this stuff works on my kiddo’s stuff. (that’s tomorrow’s chore)

  1. Wow – you are so resourceful! I wish I could get my act together to do something like this!

    • Thank you. With 4 kids I try to see how much I can do at home. Plus one has pretty bad allergies. It took about 15 mins to make up this soap. And it made my house smell really good
