Fabric Pumpkin Tutorial

I have always wanted to make some pumpkins out of fabric.  I just never seem to find the time to do it and then before I know it the season for pumpkins was over.  So this year I made sure I made at least 2 of them.  I am very happy how they turned out and will make some more.

Here’s what you need:

fabric scraps or fat quarters

needle, yarn needle

thread (i used quilters thread)

cutting board

glue gun

fiber fill (stuffing)

yarn/colored dmc floss

Here’s some of the fabric I found:

~ Cut the fabric 9 x 18 or desired size of pumpkin

~ then take the ends and sew them together (i sewed them by hand)

~then sew bottom edge with a running stitch and pull to gather.  tie off thread so bottom stays gathered.

~turn right side out and fill will stuffing

~sewing running stitch around upper edge and pull to gather.  then tie off.

~take yarn or dmc floss (cross stitch thread) and pull down center of pumpkin base and bring around outside.  continue to do this until you have 8 threaded around the pumpkin, tie off.

~take another color to use for the stem.  cut small square and sew a stem shape (i free handed it)

~turn right side out and stuff.  then use running stitch to close bottom.  I then hot glued stem into place onto pumpkin

~ your pumpkin is done enjoy!!

(sorry some of the photo came out funny, today was overcast and the flash was acting funny)
